Sand Tracks

Dear Readers,

There’s a quote by Henry David Thoreau, “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.”

Sometimes, we move through life aimlessly with no clear purpose or direction. We feel lost, do what we think we should do, or seek short term pleasure and materialistic features in life hoping for joy. We may then become disappointed to find ourselves still searching.

I am picturing walking on the beach with your feet stepping in the sand. When you walk quickly on soft, damp sand, your feet simply reach the surface and your footsteps quickly fade. However, when you dig your feet a little deeper in thicker sand and walk more slowly, your tracks hold stronger, and you can see your mark.

I think the quote by Thoreau encourages us to go after our passions in life and what we find fulfilling. Rather than aimlessly moving through the motions, we should savor aspects of life that we care about and do what we find meaningful to us.

When we step on shallow sand, our mark fades. When we really dig into the sand and appreciate our walk, we enjoy the journey and can look back on the mark we made with pride.

Find your passions and what you cherish in life and chase after this with care and appreciation.

You will gain much more from your beach walk.

Love,
Samantha
