Sunset Swim
Dear Readers,
Do you ever randomly feel your mind wander to somewhere, something, or someone else other than what is right in front of you?
It is fascinating how you can physically be somewhere but mentally somewhere else. It’s like you are there, but not really there at all.
Our minds often have so many thoughts, memories, ideas, etc. that it can distract us from the present moment.
Imagine you are swimming in the ocean and there is a beautiful sunset above you. It feels warm outside, and the sky carries shades of red, purple, pink, and orange as the sun begins to fade.
You dive into the water and feel the light waves brush your skin. You decide to keep swimming, your head underwater. Your mind begins to wander like the drifting waves.
By the time you lift your head and look at the sky, the shades of color have passed, and it is darker now. The temperature outside feels cooler.
You realize that you missed the sunset.
Sometimes, if you feel your mind wandering, you can ask yourself where am I right now? Am I really here?
When you check in with yourself, this can help to bring you back to the present moment and absorb your surroundings. Sometimes, we become so distracted or caught up that we forget to appreciate what is right in front of us.
You don’t want to go through life being somewhere else. You want to be where you are. You want to enjoy and appreciate where you are.
Because then the moment passes, and you never get it back.
Take time to breathe once in awhile as you are swimming. Admire the sky before the sun goes down.
Love,
Samantha
